Some people have inquired about the setup I use to do my music. It’s nothing special, really. You can be very minimalistic and still churn out a decent track.
I use Image-Line’s FL Studio as the main sequencer. There are a few generators that are handy within the program itself, such as 3xOsc, TS404 and Wasp. The others are decent, but cheesy in my opinion. Basics aside, I also use reFX Vanguard. It’s a brilliantly designed synth. I like using it because it can deliver arps and leads with that trancey sound. There’s also another VSTi that I use commonly called Edirol Orchestral. That one delivers a lot of the piano and string sounds I’ve been using the last year or so. I also like to use rgc:audio z3ta+. While it is quite CPU hungry, it delivers crisp, driving leads well worth the cost. My first use of it was heard in EternuS. I also have Essential Club Sounds sample discs. These are excellent for sound effects, short stab synths and percussion.
For hardware, there’s only two things I own. The Roland MC-307 groovebox and the Behringer XENYX802 mixer. More may come later, but I haven’t decided whether or not to pursue a live-play career. Right now the only live-play I do consists solely of the use of MC-307 and it’s for personal entertainment. Though the live version of Gargoyle turned out very nicely.
Speaking of live play, I’ve added more songs to the MC-307. Which songs? That’s a secret
I plan on doing a 1-hour special or something similar, redoing some of the songs I’ve done in the past. Suggestions are more than welcome.
